"Ramapo Training has provided our staff with the tools to appropriately coach and lead the behavior of the children in their class. Thanks to Ramapo Training our staff now have the skills to implement effective behavior management practices." –Michael G. Clements, Assistant Director, Education and Youth Services, FEGS Health and Human Services System
Managing Difficult Behavior—Our core introductory workshop teaches youth workers practical techniques for therapeutically managing children’s disruptive behaviors. This program teaches participants to change behavior by leading positively, building relationships, teaching strategically, structuring situations, and intervening actively when required.
Increasing Participation and Building Community—This workshop focuses on strategies for engaging youth based on their unique needs and perspectives. Workshop participants learn strategies for encouraging youth voice, providing authentic choices, clarifying goals together, and actively reflecting.
Structuring Programs to Meet Students’ Identified Needs—Participants learn to anticipate problems, recognize small occurrences that can trigger bigger issues, and head off more serious difficulties.
Strategies for Avoiding and De-Escalating Conflict Situations—This workshop focuses on identifying power struggles and recognizing triggers that may cause a situation to escalate.
The Behavior Management Specialist Series—Over nine hours of workshops, this systematic and inclusive approach to behavior management puts tools, strategies, and procedures in the hands of staff members to facilitate a team approach to managing challenging behaviors. Participants also receive follow-up technical assistance.
Managing the Behavior of Children with Special Needs—This workshop provides youth workers with practical skills and strategies for handling children’s challenging behaviors and building a safe and structured program environment adapted to meet students’ identified special needs.
Structuring Programs that Include Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders—Participants learn how best to prepare for the growing number of children diagnosed each year with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). This workshop provides tools for successfully structuring programs that acknowledge special interests, establish routines, reinforce self-control, and address sensory sensitivity to ensure that children with ASD can be included successfully.
“Here and Now” Supervisory Skills for Inclusive Youth Programming—In this workshop series program directors and managers learn critical supervisory skills and share, reflect, and problem-solve with peers.
Program Observation and Feedback—Ramapo coaches follow up their programming by providing youth workers with respectful and appropriate feedback.
Coaching for Youth Service Directors—Coaching provides supervisors with a toolbox of management resources and practical solutions. Our coaching model gives directors practical strategies to implement change, effectively supervise underperforming staff, structure disorganized programs, and manage difficult behavior in children.
"Ramapo's comprehensive trainings have given our after-school staff the tools they need to effectively, proactively, and positively manage all student behavior." –Christie Hodgkins, Program Director, Church Avenue Merchants Block Association (CAMBA)
