Rachel Figurasmith, Associate Director, Academic Programs
Rachel has been working in youth development for more over a decade. Raised by a family of New York City educators, Rachel holds an MA in Jewish Education, a certificate in Special Education, and a BA in Urban Education. Rachel's career in youth development began in her teens working as a summer camp counselor, where she worked for six summers. Since then, Rachel has worked as an advocate for homeless children in Kenya, a caseworker for Swahili-speaking youth from East Africa, a director of a publicly funded after-school program, an education director of a synagogue, and an inclusion specialist. In both her personal and professional life, Rachel is deeply committed to increasing access to public programs for people with disabilities. At Ramapo, in addition to leading workshops and coaching educators, Rachel directs a growing number of academic courses, which combine college coursework with youth work experience in the field.
